Topical Exhibits
Topical exhibits dealing with the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Chinese region, and Japan have been opened in a number of exhibition galleries. These exhibits deal not only with their traditional cultures but also with current issues in the respective regions, and are updated every one or two years.

The Americas
Through stone sculpture, print, painting, and tapestry, the Inuit are expressing their traditional culture and that of their modern society. This exhibit will introduce you to the culture of the Inuit society.

Europe

This exhibit highlights the different use of light and shade by Europeans as compared to Japanese. Europeans make good use of subdued lighting in their lives. Mainly candles and lamps are exhibited.

This exhibit focuses on the folk beliefs of people in many parts of Europe based on their view of life and revealed through the objects they use for Christmas and Easter, objects that have their origin in ancient beliefs such as the worship of trees.

The Culture of the Chinese Region

The technique of indigo-blue tie-dyeing has been introduced to the village of the Bai people in Dali, Yunnan, China. The exhibition will show you the techniques of tie-dyeing, its history, and the life of the people through some 200 exhibits of tie-dyed cloth.

The indigenous world of Taiwan as seen through the eyes of KANO Tadao, a naturalist who was active during the Taisho and Showa eras is exhibited through the artifacts that he collected and the pictures that he took.
